Areas of Special Focus

The Atlantic Pops Community Band has focused on charity and education since its inception. It is an excellent place for educators to maintain their own skills as well as enrich the talents of their respective music learners. In addition, the Atlantic Pops Community Band uses its music and resources to help those who may not have easy or financial access to the fine arts, and more importantly, to help those who may not receive the benefits or help of their community. Last, but not least, the Atlantic Pops serves as a musical fraternity through the camaraderie and well-intended, concerted efforts of its members.

Services Our Organization Provides to the Community:

The Atlantic Pops Community Band exists to serve its members and its audiences alike with meaningful music and charitable and community experiences. Over the past decade, the Atlantic Pops has performed over 40 concerts in the Atlantic County area, performed an Easter Concert in Mastricht, Holland, and most recently on the deck of the USS Intrepid in New York City. The purpose of the Atlantic Pops is to provide a musical, social, and educational experience for area musicians, students, and educators in the greater-Atlantic County area. To foster a broad community benefit a majority of our concerts have a benefactor or charity focus in lieu of a charge for admission. Lastly, membership in the Atlantic Pops Community Band is an inclusive, diverse, community-based experience for people of all genders, races, and ages.

Serving the needs of artists:

The Atlantic Pops Community Band is an excellent venue for educators to maintain their own high level of skills while enriching the skills of other learners through the use of meaningful music. Band members range from 18-72 years of age, and each contributes to the experience with his/her style. The ability to feature guest conductors with high profiles ensures the educational value of the music. Our annual Side-by-Side Concert permits students from all over Atlantic County to perform alongside Atlantic Pops Community Band members. Last year, over 120 students and Atlantic Pops Community Band members performed in the Ocean City Arts Center in Ocean City, NJ.

Promoting Accessibility for People with Disabilities:

Atlantic Pops only uses facilities that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations and standards. Parking for the physically disabled and easy access ramps is provided. Seating for people using wheelchairs is available in a manner that allows seating with their family or friends. Hearing amplifiers, for the hearing impaired, are provided at no cost. Finally, all programs and the Atlantic Pops Community Band website (www.Atlanticpops.org) include disability symbols.

Advancing and Advocating for Arts Education:

Through the use of annual scholarships, the Atlantic Pops Community Band is able to help members, who are students, continue their education and bring a new perspective to the organization. Area Music directors are invited to attend performances with students in order to allow them to experience new and different music and presentation styles.

Offering New and Increased Opportunities:

Our Children’s Concert is an intergenerational effort between grandparents and their grandchildren. Children are exposed to a different type of music than they are accustomed to. For some, it is their first experience with live music and narration. Many times, this exposure leads to students enrolling in the music programs in their respective schools.

Reaching Out and Expanding the Number and Breadth of Programs:

Atlantic Pops is constantly looking for new members and places to perform. Our music repertoire is quite expansive. We are currently meeting with managers in several different locations to allow a variety of performances. This will allow us to reach new audiences and invite other musicians to join our core group.
